The programme aims to develop skills and attributes that are essential with the area of contemporary illustration based on the needs of local and national industry. The course prides itself on forward thinking and new approaches to working with narrative visualisation through a host of personal and client based projects. The practical techniques that are delivered to students develop both traditional and digital skills with the emphasis on drawing and visualisation techniques as a foundation for studio practice. Students are introduced to alternative methods of working that allow a free flow of creative and experimental work to be produced as well as a clear understanding of industry practice and workflows that will benefit students in future careers within the Creative Industries. Students will gain experience working with print making, drawing and painting, digital visualisation in 2D and 3D. All staff are all established practitioners that use their experience of contemporary practice to inform the curriculum. Work-based projects are part of the course and previous placements and opportunities have included working with; Arcus Studios, After Midnight, Pictoplasma, Association of Illustrators, Live Theatre, Channel 4, Sony Playstation, Sega, Orange, St Lukes, Saatchi and Saatchi, Studio Moo, Little Tiger Press, Cheltnam Illustration Awards, House of Illustration, V&A and Penguin Books.The course is designed for individuals that have a passion for creative arts and want to pursue a career within the sector. We are looking for motivated, interesting and informed applicants who embrace their subject and are willing to commit to a programme of study that will allow progression either in to employment or Level 7 study. Successful graduates can progress into a career in illustration or working with graphics agencies, animation studios and computer games companies. By working on live briefs set by creative agencies, our students have gone on to secure placements, internships, commissions and employment at some of the leading design agencies in the country.
