This combined degree gives you the opportunity to study two influential European cultures and their hugely important languages. It offers real insights into the cultures and societies of the Luso-Brazilian and French-speaking worlds, and sharpens your understanding of their commonalities and differences.
Combined honours offer the same quality and flexibility as our single honours programmes. In year one, you will study compulsory language modules and a range of option modules. In your second and fourth years, you will develop your practical language skills and choose options according to your interests. You will spend a year abroad in year three in a country where one of your chosen languages is spoken. Students on this route would study either accelerated French or Portuguese language classes from beginner's level.
Modern languages and linguistics at Southampton is ranked fifth in the UK for the quality of our research (REF 2014). Teaching and learning is supported by three research centres, Transnational Studies, Global Englishes and Applied Language Research.
