COURSE OF French and Philosophy (4 years)

University of Southampton (Southampton)
University: http://www.southampton.ac.uk/
Combining French with philosophy allows you to explore fundamental philosophical concepts and questions while studying a leading language of European philosophy. Apart from being one of the largest native languages in the world, French is, famously, the language of Descartes, Rousseau, Sartre and Derrida.
French is a key international language, native to France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada and the French Caribbean and an official language in much of Africa and Asia, while philosophy fosters rational thinking and communication, skills that are in great demand. The two subjects offer modules with complementary content. For example, in philosophy you may study the philosophy of language, aesthetics and continental philosophy, and you will be in a unique position to engage with the works of famous French philosophers such as Sartre and Foucault.
Modern languages and linguistics at Southampton is ranked fifth in the UK for the quality of our research (REF 2014). Teaching and learning is supported by three research centres, Transnational Studies, Global Englishes and Applied Language Research.
