Combining French and German gives you the opportunity of studying two neighbouring European cultures and their hugely important languages and gain real insight into the cultures and societies of the larger French and German speaking worlds, sharpening your understanding of their commonalities and differences.
Combined honours offer the same quality and flexibility as our single honours programmes. In year one, you will study compulsory language modules and a range of option modules. In your second and fourth years, you will develop your practical language skills and choose options according to your interests. You will spend year three in a country where one of your chosen languages is spoken.
Modern languages and linguistics at Southampton is ranked fifth in the UK for the quality of our research (REF 2014). Teaching and learning is supported by three research centres, Transnational Studies, Global Englishes and Applied Language Research.
