This course specialises in the bloodstock industry comparing science and business practices to those within the sports horse industry. The University has a proven track record for graduate employability, with former students securing high profile positions in the many facets of the racing industry. This innovative three year course is tailored to those with a keen interest and career aspirations in the thoroughbred and sports horse industries; from training and breeding to racecourse and enterprise management. The course will cover business management aspects of a booming global bloodstock industry, addressing ethical issues facing racing and furnish graduates with the skills and knowledge to pursue a career within a wide range of racing-related businesses. Visits to racing businesses in Lambourn, Newmarket and Ireland (the latter at an additional cost) and sports horse enterprises in the UK will give you an insight into a range of activities that support and develop the European racing and performance horse industries.
In the second year, students must take a (20 week minimum) industrial placement, working in an organisation between March and September. These opportunities are viewed very favourably by potential employers and provide students with the chance to experience real organisational life at first hand. Students are encouraged to choose wide ranging possibilities of types of organisation both in the UK and abroad. On occasion, students can elect to work for a longer period than 20 weeks and take a year out of University in order to do so.
