This programme aims to equip you with an understanding of architecture's formal qualities, theoretical frameworks and relationship to the wider cultural, social, economic and political circumstances in which works of art and architecture were created. It also aims to give you an understanding of historical and archaeological methods and a sensitivity to issues of historical and cultural difference. This includes the use of primary documentation and historical sources to illuminate works of architecture and archaeological artefacts and remains. Our architecture programmes are prescribed by the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and have full Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) validation. You will have opportunities to gain hands-on experience through embedded periods of integrated practice. As a place of outstanding architectural interest and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, Edinburgh offers the perfect setting in which to study the built environment. We're ranked first in Scotland and 11th in the UK for architecture/built environment in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2017.
